Popular porn site distributes malware that represses victims

A Popular porn site has spread malware that is trying to extort victims. A reader on Reddit reported that he had downloaded a porn video with a ".src file" via the Xvideos website. The website is on the 43rd place of most visited websites on the internet, says analytics company, Alexa.

In the United States Xvideos is even in a 32nd place. Through the website, users can download videos, which is probably the way the malware was distributed. The affected user namely knows that in addition to a video file he also received an src file, which turned out to be the malware. Once opened, the malware collects all kinds of information about the system and makes different screenshots from the desktop.

A message is also placed on the desktop. It states that child pornography has been detected on the system, supplemented with the IP address of the user. They get 24 hours to pay 0.01 bitcoin, otherwise, all data will be sent to the police, according to the threat. Based on the specified bitcoin addresses, the Bleeping Computer website states that three victims have already paid. At the moment 0.03 bitcoin is worth 260 euros. However, there are no indications that the malware actually uploads the collected information to a server or sends it to the authorities.
